@spectreowner360, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your concerns regarding the battery and overheating issues with your HP Spectre x360 13-aw0008ca. I’ll do my best to assist you.
Possible Causes & Troubleshooting Steps
1️. Check the Power Adapter & Charging Port:
- Ensure you're using the original HP charger and adapter.
- Try a different HP charger to rule out any adapter-related issues.
- Inspect the charging port for dust or damage.
2️. Battery Not Charging & Discharging Quickly:
- If the old battery is not holding charge, it could be degraded.
- Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:
- Turn off your laptop.
- Press F2 repeatedly while powering it on.
- Navigate to Component Tests > Battery Test and check the results.
3️. Overheating Issue Near USB 3 Port:
- Overheating while shut down may indicate a hardware issue or a short circuit.
- Check if the BIOS is up to date (HP Support Drivers).
- Reset the system by removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds before reconnecting.
4️. Laptop Not Running Without Battery:
- Some HP Spectre models require a battery to function properly, even when plugged in. However, this shouldn’t cause overheating.
- If the laptop works fine with only the charger but overheats with a battery, the battery might be faulty.
I hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
