My HP Spectre x36O-13t-4200-CTO (ENERGY STAR) laptop is showing a problem with bulging of the case directly under the keyboard / track mouse pad - splitting the case in two.  I read where the bulging is <possibly> caused by the batteries, according to a bulletin.  Is there any way to determine if that IS the problem, or if something else heat-related could be at play.  I did see a reply from an HP Community member, but cannot pull it back up for some reason.  Besides, it was nearly 8 months old.

Anyone out there that can assist with this or point me in the right direction?  Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, it is the battery that is bulging. You should replace or have the battery replaced as soon as possible.

The part number for the battery is 789116-005

You can try an online search with part number

Example:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR3.TRC1.A0.H0.X789116-005.TRS...

You can also get original from HP parts store

https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=2083971012F04213A343B7610EE341C1&SearchIn=P...

On page 21 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the battery

Hi Iomare - this is all very good information and very useful.  I am trying to decide between replacing the battery on this 6-yr-old laptop with the case pretty deformed now, or just bite the bullet and upgrade, since the batteries are back-ordered into eternity.  Somehow I just thought the case was warping a little with age, but then it got really bad quickly!  I think the replacement is an easy job, so it kind of bites that no batteries are available.  E-bay is not an option for me at this point, either.

Anyway, I wanted you (and anyone else interested) to know that the link you provided for HP Parts Website is outdated, and can now be found at:

Thanks!
