HP Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop currently has a 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM configuration. I would very much like to upgrade this laptop to 2TB / 32GB rather than have to replace it. The manual lists a maximum of 1TB/16GB for this model number, but it isn't clear to me if this is just listing 'standard' configurations the device originally shipped with, or maximum supported configurations. I have seem other responses which imply a 2TB/32GB configuration would/should work, but I'm obviously keen to get this confirmed for my specific model before I go ahead and purchace these upgrades.

The specific model is - HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-bl001na

Can anyone advise?

Many thanks

You're very welcome, Tim.

I'm thinking that the drive capacities listed in the manual are just what HP offered in the model series, not the absolute maximum drive capacity the notebook can handle.

Memory...since the manual and Crucial indicate the max is 2 x 8 GB, Crucial won't list compatible 16 GB memory chips.

This should be the compatible 32 GB memory kit number you need.

DDR4-2400:

Crucial 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 SODIMM | CT2K16G4SFD824A | Crucial UK

DDR4-2666:

Crucial 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2666 SODIMM | CT2K16G4SFD8266 | Crucial UK

For some reason the faster speed memory kit is less money, but it should work just as well as the DDR4-2400 kit.

The memory is only going to run at 2133 MHz anyway since that is as fast as your notebook's processor can run the memory at.

As long as that Windows memory report you ran is 100% accurate, it should work.

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that 2 TB NVMe SSD's are supported.

HP Spectre x360 Convertible PC Maintenance and Service GuideIMPORTANT! This document is intended for...

Chapter 1 also indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB.

You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can actually support...

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacity and hit enter. There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Many thanks for your support.

When I query maxcapacity for mempry, I get 33,554,432 Kb (ie 32GB I think), so it looks like 32GB (2x16) od RAM should be an option providing I select modules that physically fit the space available.

Re SSD upgrade - Chapter 1 implies the limit of 2TB is only for the 15-bl1xx series, and a max of 1TB for the 15-bl0xx (which mine is), so this reads to me like I cant upgrade beyond the 1TB drive I already have. However I have seen other posts which imply 2TB 'should' be OK, and when I run a Crucial scan, I get offered 2TB upgrades as an option (but no memory uogrades).

If I'm going to upgrade, I wan't to take advantage of the current black friday discounts if possible, so need to do this very soon.

Any further views on this before I gpo ahead and risk a purchace?

Much appreciated,

Tim
