Salutations.
I own and am presently writing this post on an HP Spectre x360 15-bl1XX , which I have owned and constanly used since June of 2018. Around mid-January, I began to notice that my laptop's trackpad became less sensitive, but didn't think much of it; I figured that with all the use its seen in the past few years, it was just beginning to wear out a bit. However, in late April/early May, I began to notice that the trackpad was beginning to bulge in the center, which, in turn, made it difficult to click the left-side (I use the right side as my primary button, since I am ambidexterous and use either of my hands to operate the laptop). I didn't do anything about it immediatly because I couldn't (I was complying with my state's stay-at-home order and computer repair shops were not considered to be an essential).
In recent days, however, I began to notice that this bulge has gotten significantly worse, and it has become incredibly difficult to operate the trackpad. After conducting some brief research, I came across some posts on this forum by users that have had the same issue as me and have come to believe that the battery may be swelling. This laptop is no longer under warranty (unfortunately, it expired on June 25th of 2019), so I do not believe I can send it in to HP to have it fixed.
Is there any way I can resolve this issue on my own, preferably before it gets any worse? I cannot afford to replace this laptop, nor can I afford to be without it.
I kindly thank you for any assistance you can offer me.
I wish those reading this good health, and hope you have a nice day.

Yes, you can fix this
Replacing the battery is not so difficult once you open the case.
and
Yes, it is imperative that you fix this.
It may be worse and cause the computer to be unusable.
Best to get the battery out of there.
You can run the computer on AC power (no battery) though, of course, it will be vulnerable to power outages. Connect the notebook to a battery backup unit, if you have one.
