My spectre is just over 4 years old (out of my extended 3 year warranty) when it stopped charging or showing nay signs that it even recognized the charger was plugged in. After buying a new charger, extensive trouble shooting with HP on the phone and from online suggestions, and then taking my computer to be looked at by Geek Squad and then a private company, it was determined that my motherboard needed to be replaced. I had initially taken it to the private company to replace the motherboard since I was initially quoted that the repair should only cost about $350, but they could only find a replacement motherboard for nearly $400 and up (plus labor), so now I am looking to instead get a new computer.
After extensive online research, I found that motherboard replacements are very common in Spectre laptops, many requiring replacements in just 1-2 years. When I searched "spectre motherboard replace" in the HP Community there were 196 results that nearly all have similar issues, often occurring in a shorter period of time. With that many posts on just this website, plus NUMEROUS posts on other websites with very similar issues, it seems like this is a well-known design flaw of this computer. There have been plenty of recent posts with newer laptops that suggest that this issue is still occurring in the newer models. I guess 4 years is a decent lifespan for a laptop, but for a computer I paid $1300+ for with top of the line hardware and design, I expected far more. I loved this computer and it was working perfectly until this charging/motherboard issue, so I would have been perfectly willing to put the money into a repair or even a new Spectre if needed for a fluke hardware issue, but I have serious doubts about whether it would be worth it to get a new $1000+ Spectre just for the same issue to happen again. This is an issue HP needs to address and also offer free repairs or another benefit to customers that already spent substantial amounts of money on a top of the line computer only for it to last a far shorter time than similar (and often cheaper) models.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
