HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-ch0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Can someone else who owns a HP Spectre x360 confirm that it is normal for USB-C ports to always have power even when computer is shut down?  I have already updated my bios and turned off USB Charging in the bios but it seems to only disable the USB 3.0 port from power but not the USB-C ports.  I have an external HDD using USB-C and both ports will leave my HDD powered on.  Is this normal behvair or do I have a defective part? I spoke with Support and they want me to send my laptop in for repair but before I do can someone else confirm if they can turn power off to USB-C ports when laptop is OFF.

@CherylG  Done!

I do have the very same notebook as yours for an HP Product loan for 2018.

I will test it and edit this post.

@tr1ple5

Hold the presses!

I just realized that I tested the wrong port and went back in to test the USB 3.1 type-C

The USB type-C has charging power whether it is enabled or disabled.

You definitely had the right thought on asking someone to confirm before sending the notebook in.

Another member has the same model I believe. Maybe @erico will pop in with more info.

Thank you both for your help. I had a feeling my support rep gave me wrong info.

Now, how do I submit a request to see if a bios update can give the option to turn off the power to usb type 3 ports when off? Haha

I can submit that internally. I think you may have meant to say  USB 3.1 type C.

Our Spectre x360 15-ch000 notebooks have the following  external ports:

1 Thunderbolt™ 3 (Data Transfer up to 40 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge); 1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s, Power Delivery, DP1.2, HP Sleep and Charge); 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (HP Sleep and Charge); 1 HDMI
