I have a 2018 Spectre x360 15” laptop that I bought in June of 2019, and about 2 weeks ago i noticed the trackpad had popped up slightly and figured it have just gotten bent out of place. This issue persisted however, and I’ve noticed the laptop lid can’t close all the way due to the trackpad bulging out.
Turns out this isn’t a unique issue as I’ve seen many other people have this exact problem on the same model laptop. It’s an issue with an expanding battery pack, so I’m wondering whether or not HP has recalled this battery yet, as it seems to be an immediate safety issue if left unresolved. My laptop is past warranty, but I feel a serious defect in battery structure is both a fire hazard (as my laptop has been getting significantly hotter the last couple days), and reason enough for some kind of recall and replacement program.
Is there any support I can get from HP regarding this issue? Thanks

Battery swelling is not cause for a recall. All lithium ion batteries are subject to this phenomenon and it is not a fire hazard but can result in damage to the laptop casing. You do need to replace the battery. I just had this same thing happen on my own HP laptop past warranty and it is just expected maintenance. Give us please your full model number and we can help you find a battery and instructions.
