My spectre won’t turn on, only the keyboard backlight ON/OFF switched flashed once and makes a twitched sound when I try to hold the power button. This started to to occur when I noticed that my laptop screen freezes up suddenly a couple of times which hasn’t happened often before.
Does anyone have a solution to this?

Hi @Alary1020,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Spectre may be experiencing some hardware or software issues. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Hard Reset: Sometimes, a hard reset can resolve power-related issues. To do this, disconnect the laptop from any power source, including the charger, and then press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. After that, try turning it on again.
- Check Power Adapter and Battery: Make sure that the power adapter is properly connected to both the laptop and a power source. Also, try removing the battery if it's removable and then reconnect it to see if that helps.
- Check for Loose Connections: Check for any loose connections, particularly around the power jack and battery connections.
- External Display: If you have access to an external monitor, try connecting your laptop to it to see if you get any display output. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop's display or something else.
- Update Drivers and BIOS: If you can access the BIOS settings or boot into safe mode, consider updating your laptop's drivers and BIOS firmware. Sometimes outdated drivers or BIOS can cause compatibility issues.
- Hardware Diagnostic Test: Many HP laptops come with built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify hardware problems. You can usually access these tools by pressing a specific key during startup (often F2 or F10). Run a comprehensive hardware test to check for any issues.
Given the symptoms you described, it seems like there might be an underlying hardware issue, especially if you're hearing a "twitched sound" when attempting to turn on the laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
