My Spectre has, I think, run into the same motherboard problems many others have. Wondering if anyone's solved this issue without springing for an entirely new laptop. It acts completely dead. No lights on when charging, at first did a three blink with white light, not even that now. Just dead. I really like this laptop and would prefer to avoid buying a new one. Thanks in advance.

When you plug in the power adapter, the notebook's power/charge LED should illuminate. It should be either white or amber.
If it does not light up, the issue could be either a failed power adapter, a broken header where the power adapter plugs in or a failed charging section on the notebook's system board.
Since you have had your notebook in excess of five years, the notebook's main battery is likely to no longer have any more service life. (no longer useable)
The first thing to try would be a new charger, I know it is expensive, but it is much less expensive than your notebook was when you purchased it.
A replacement battery is pretty inexpensive. If the power/charge LED won't light up it will not be the best plan to replace the battery as it won't charge.

Great.
Keep us in the loop by letting us know if the new power adapter solved the issue.
If the new power adapter doesn't make the power/charge LED illuminate, it means one of the other items I described, has a fault.

OK. Sorry to hear that.
I should have asked you this before. Have you plugged the USB power adapter into another device with a USB type-2 charging port to see if it is operating? My Samsung Galaxy watch charger uses a USB type-2 power adapter for its wireless charger.
The issue could also be that the charging circuit on the notebook's system board has failed components.
Even with a failed battery, a notebook should still operate from the charging circuit when the power adapter is plugged in.
You may be at a point where you should consider replacing the notebook.
You can remove the M.2 SSD from the notebook and use a USB M.2 SSD enclosure to recover the data to your new notebook or to your desktop PC.
