HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13; Product number: L6A11EA#ABU
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a problem with the battery not charging. Currently the battery icon in the taskbar states "92% available (plugged in)".

I have had similar software related problems before on previous devices, though I have always found the message to read "plugged in, not charging". In this case, it only says "plugged in", with no reference to charging at all (even in battery settings).

I have tried powering down, removing the AC adapter, and holding down the power button for the recommended time (I have tried 15 seconds, 30 seconds, and 1 minutes, just to be sure). I have tried uninstalling the battery drivers and restarting, as well as checking for updated drivers (there were none). I have checked the battery using HP Support Assistant, which says it is fine. When switched off but plugged in, the power LED remains white, indicating it is not charging.

I intend to try another power adapter when I can (though the laptop is still able to run from the one which I am using now, just won't charge the battery).  Any other suggestions for what this issue could be?

In particular, it would be useful to know if anyone else has had the specific issue of the battery icon just saying "plugged in", as opposed to "plugged in, not charging", in case that narrows the root cause down.

Thanks in advance!

@azz18441,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that the battery is not getting charged and you are getting a message saying plugged in.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check if it helps.

Here's what worked for me:

Unplug the power cord

Hold down the power button until the pc turns off

When the computer is powered down, hold the F6 key and the power button for 30 seconds.

Turn the pc back on, plug in the cord.

Your icon will still say (plugged in), but if you look on HP Support Assistant dashboard under Battery, it should show "charging."
