Hi,

So my computer started freezing as soon as I got it back in October 2017. Then, I checked the forums and changed the configuration of the power settings and processor usage.

A couple of weeks ago, it started happening again. Basically the mouse gets stuck and I cannot do it anything, it doesn't respond to touch either. I tried to update the intel drivers (somehow this problem seems to be related to the wireless and Bluetooth drivers) but their installation windows just appeared blank on my computer. I then formatted my entire computer, installed windows again and then the freezing problem started again. I have updated the drivers, even the driver for the BIOS, I've changed the power settings to maximum performance, but nothing has worked.

Please help!!!!, It's very annoying and it even happens when nothing is running on my computer.

Apart from that, the fan is very loud and some forums recommend installing HP CoolSensing but that software is not available for my model.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you run an extensive system test and let me know the results

- Shut down the Notebook completely
- Turn it back on, then tap the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup menu screen is displayed.
- Press F2 to select System Diagnostics.
- Click System Tests, then click Extensive Test.

Also let me know if the Notebook is overheating

Hi

I did the extensive test but nothing happened, it just says “Approved”. Proceeded to start the laptop again and now the freezing is worse.

And the computer does overheat sometimes, but it doesn’t appear to be correlated to the freezing episodes.

I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check if it helps.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

If you continue facing the issue, then perform a clean boot and check.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Click Start, and type msconfig.
  2. Select System Configuration from the search results.
  3. On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.
  4. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task Manager.
  5. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.
  6. Close Task Manager.
  7. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK, and then restart the computer.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I just updated the BIOS from F.45 to F.50 but it kept happening. I was going to update the graphics card but I noticed the version in the HP website yout told me (https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers) is older than the currently installed driver. Should I downgrade?

Version in HP Website:

Driver Date =      03/06/2018

Driver Version = 22.20.16.4836 Rev.C

Current version installed in my computer:

Driver Date =      02/05/2020

Driver Version = 26.20.00.7870

I also followed the steps to disable the services and startup program, but it keeps freezing.

Please help!

Thank you for posting back.

The last thing I can suggest trying to restore the computer back to the factory settings. Performing an HP system recovery (Windows ) While doing the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows )You can also contact HP support for assistance. They can remotely access your system to help alleviate difficulties: www.hp.com/contacthp/

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

My problem continues. I called HP support, they asked me to do a couple of things, which I did, and nothing worked. Then they sent me a Flash Drive with the Operating System so I could perform a total recovery. That didn't work.

I triple checked every single configuration, it didn't work. Finally, I had a person from HP remote to my computer, performed a sfc/scannnow in command prompt and apparently there were some corrupted files (I don't know how, since I performed the recovery with the usb they sent me) . They fixed that, and the computer was fine.... for almost a week. Almost.

It's freezing like crazy again. Please help!!!
