My neighbor has asked if there is anything I can do to help him with his laptop not booting. It is a HP Stream 14(?) CB-110nr.
This model uses a chip on board for the 32gb SSD functions. It appears that there are problems accessing it and it won't boot. I have tried the storage diagnostics but they immediately return to the menu. I have booted using a linux livedvd with a usb dvd drive. I then tried to access the "disk" via several tools in linux but it just returns i/o failures. So it appears there is a problem with the emmc.
Since I don't think the on-board emmc is replacable I tried using a SDcard but there is no boot option to use the card reader.
I did see one article online about replacing the internal wireless adapter card with a physically tiny mpci or msata solid state disk. I did buy one cheaply via Ebay but when i went to replace the wireless card the key on the ssd card is incorrect so therefore incompatible bus.
Is there a way to replace the wireless with a physically tiny ssd card of some sort? I have a USB wireless adapter I can give him to use with it.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking this is one of those times I take it back to him and tell him nothing can be done, but you never know.

Hi:
Your only option would be to have your friend buy a replacement motherboard, and in my opinion that would be throwing good money after bad, unless you could find a used but tested and working motherboard on eBay for real cheap.
See chapter 3 of the service manual for the list of supported motherboards with their HP part numbers.
The M.2 wifi slot can only be used for wifi cards.
