I bought my HP Stream in September when my Dell's screen finally broke apart. I basically chose a laptop based off of what I could buy at Target because I didn't have anything on that credit card. I was not aware that people are selling laptops with this tiny amount of storage on them. HP apparently intends you to make up for this by using the Cloud, and most of my files are on Drive, so that's not that big of a problem.
I don't understand what we're supposed to do with programs? I have almost no files on my laptop, but I do have some programs installed. Microsoft Update can hardly ever actually update itself because it says I have no room. Are we not supposed to have additional programs? Do I have to have external storage? Can you install programs on external storage?

HP is not the only OEM selling these laptops with 32 or possibly 64 gigs of storage. I will say that the amount of hard drive space is prominently mentioned at the point of sale but they do not do a good job of explaining what a hassle it will be to run Windows on 32 or even 64 gigs of storage. Partial relief can be found by installing an SD card in the SD slot permanently and assigning it a drive letter. You can move the "library" folders (docs, pics, music, downloads, videos) to that and keep them off the C:\ drive. Apps are another story. Windows 10 limits the extent to which programs can be installed anywhere other than the C:\ drive.
You can set Windows to use very few restore points you can turn off hibernation you can set the "virtual memory" (swap) file as small as possible.

I personally believe that these Cloudbooks are Microsoft's attempted answer to Google's Chromebook.
I bought a Lenovo Ideapad 120S on Black Friday to see what the fuss is about.
I haven't installed anything except for AOEMEI backup.
I bought an microSD card for storing my data.

I am unimpressed the HP Stream (still sold at Costco) with 32 gb storage cannot do basic minimum of Windows!
Was adequate albeit cheap portable laptop since do most stuff on phone
Now, with NOTHING other than included Office 365 and Adobe, cannot even download Windows Updates?!
And Windows keeps reminding me!
Want to tell Windows to bugger off, and stop being so bloated
Costco great for returns, to 3 months, this beyond that, less than 6
Would delete Office and Adobe (though what can you do without pdf and ppt?) BUT would still not have room
And have ZERO document!
HP deserves blame
So does Windows, why the heck does it need to be soooo big?!
I don't want the dumb background
Just reliable, cheap computer to use on line, can save documents to cloud or USB, but this can't even hold current operating system?
Not enough storage space for even the "fresh start"?!
Shame on Windows
Not fair a better Macbook is literally 10 x more money!
Shame on HP/Costco
Why sell/market a computer that can't handle the OS alone? 64 gb could get by. not this!!

I saw a 64 GB model being sold on HSN for $379.95
They didn't call it a Stream but it had the eMMC hard drive.
And if you are serious about getting Windows 10 updates do let us know!

I know. I am so disappointed. 😞 I have spent the whole time fighting it to do updates, am extremely limited to what programs I can even put on it, it keeps giving me memory errors when I'm using nothing but Chrome, and the keypad left button has been broken from day one. I haven't sent it in to be fixed because I don't want to do without a laptop and frankly, when I sent my dell in, it came back screwed poorly or something and the screen slowly fell apart on me so I'm not sending a laptop off for a funky button when I can just use a mouse. This is the worst performing computer I have ever had by far. I had no idea it was even possible. Apparently this is a common thing among all computer makers now and it makes me so mad.
The positives. I wanted a laptop with a small, well-secured screen because the last two I had had large screens that caused the demise of an otherwise fine laptop. This screen seems extremely well-secured, so I got what I wanted there.
I'm grateful to have a laptop at all, and I can usually manage to do what I need to do on it despite the frustration.
I get personal enjoyment out of all the white plastic because it reminds me of my first desktop computer and gives me a retro vibe, which I have played to the hilt. All of my desktop wallpapers have been from the 80s or 90s until the last one. 🙂
If I could go back to deciding what to do about my last laptop and whether to purchase this one, I'd give more consideration to trying to replace the screen.
I wanted to try a new laptop with an updated wi-fi card to see if it would fix my internet issues, and this one has a newer wi-fi card than my last laptop, but the internet runs even worse because, well my best guess is this horrible performance.
