Lately, may Laptop (an HP Stream) has been having battery issues. When I plug in the charger, it refuses to charge unless I start HP's battery check function in the Support Assistant app. This only lasts a few seconds though. After that, it won't charge anymore.
I know my battery can hold a charge because if I repeatedly activate the battery check, my computer will eventually charge. I've seen the percentage go up and I have taken the charger out and watched the battery slowly lose power like normal. Naturally, I can't repeatedly run the check while I'm working, so I'm wondering if there's some way I can fix my battery issues.

Welcome to HP support community.
I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:
Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:
1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.
2) Expand “Batteries”.
3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
4) Click on “Uninstall”.
5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
6) Shutdown the computer.
7) Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in.
😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.
9) Go to Device Manager.
10) Expand Batteries.
11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.
12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"
Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.
Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Run the component test on notebook battery.
-
Turn on the computer.
-
If your computer does not start normally, press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu displays, then continue to the next step.
-
If your computer starts normally, search for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows, right-click on the app in the search results, then select Run as administrator.
-
-
Click Component Tests in the main menu.
-
In the list of Component Tests, click Power.
-
In the list of Power Tests, click Battery Check or Battery.
-
On the Battery Test, click Run once.
The Battery Test begins. The Battery Test takes about two minutes. The Battery Calibration, if needed, requires 2 to 4 hours. You can cancel at any time by pressing the Escape (Esc) key.
-
When the testing is done, review the first line on the Battery Check page that displays for the status.
Let me know how it goes.

I did it and it told me to charge my battery to 100% to calibrate it.
So, for the past few days, I've been repeatedly using the battery check thing to slowly recharge my PC. I'll comment again once its at 100%.
