My HP TG01-0023w gaming desktop came with one stick of 8gb PC4-25600 ram.
The task manager said It was running at 3200mhz, but when I add one more stick of 8gb PC4-25600 ram, the speed drops to 2667mhz. The motherboard specs say it supports PC4-25600 and the ram I bought is also from HP.
Why would adding the same supported memory declock it to the default motherboard speed? Is it because the changes need to be updated in the locked Bios?
I know I can manually set the speeds in Ryzen Master, but was just wondering why this is the case.
Thank you for taking the time read and answer it.

Its specs
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06693646
It clearly says it has 8 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB). RAM installed may be 3200MHz and you can install 3200MHz but machine will only runs at 2666MHz.
Regards.

Thank you Banhien for the quick response. A quick follow up.
The 8 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB) refers to what it comes with out of the box.
I did buy a refurbished one and verified with the Task Manager that the 8gb of ram was running at 3200mhz before adding the second stick.
When you click "motherboard specifications" then "memory upgrade" from your docs, it says it supports PC4-25600 (DDR4-3200).
What does "support" really mean in this case. It will just work but at a slower speed? Is this also related to not being able to update the Bios to set the ram speed to reflect the faster chips?
Thanks again, Banhien. Appreciate your help

I bought the TG-01-023w during the holiday and when I benchmarked it after a few clocking tweaks, I can assure you that this is quite an amazing machine even if it were more expense. However, I saw the same documentation as the customer above that said the motherboard supports PC4-25600 (DDR4-3200), which is why, when I yesterday upgraded to 16GB, I bought 2x8GM 3200 MHz RAM. I am waiting for it to arrive and expect good results, merely from the fact that my new RAM has a 16 ns latency verse the 24 ns that came with the system. All that said, the BIOS HP supplies does not support overclocking at all, and, from what I gather from HP, there are no plans for that to change. While this at first glance seems a problem, it is not. Simply download RZEN Master from AMD and adjust the clock setting that way. If you don't overclock, there should be no issue!!!! The benefit added benefit of using Ryzen Master is that you will likely be able to overclock the RAM to 3600 (as well as adjust the Infinity Fabric Clock to 1800). I am not sure yet but hopeful. Please not that there is a chance you can crash the system using Ryzen Mast and if you do you will need to reset the CMOS by taking out the small battery on the motherboard for a minute or so. Anyway, I hope this help. WallyB
