HP Thunderbolt 4 100W TAA G6 Dock
Microsoft Windows 11

I just upgraded from a G5 Dock to a HP Thunderbolt 4 100W TAA G6 Dock and it is not recognizing the USB devices going through my KVM Switch (which are my wireless Keyboard and Mouse). I was using a G5 Dock that worked fine with this KVM switch, any ideas on why this G6 Dock is not recognizing the USB devices? The KVM is a 4 port HDMI model CKLau-64Hua. Thank you!

Hi @FathomThe1st ,

If you're experiencing issues with the HP Thunderbolt 4 100W TAA G6 Dock not recognizing USB devices through your KVM switch, you can try these steps mentioned below :

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Verify Connections:

    • Ensure that all cables are securely connected between the dock, KVM switch, and devices.
  2. Check Dock Ports:

    • Try connecting the KVM switch to different USB ports on the G6 Dock to rule out an issue with a specific port.
  3. Update Dock Drivers:

  4. Firmware Update:

  5. Check Device Manager:

    • Go to Device Manager and see if there are any warnings or errors under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" or "Human Interface Devices." If so, try updating or reinstalling the drivers.
  6. Windows Updates:

    • Make sure Windows 11 is fully updated, as updates can include patches for hardware compatibility.
  7. Direct Connection Test:

    • Test connecting the wireless keyboard and mouse directly to the dock to confirm that the issue lies with the connection through the KVM switch.
  8. KVM Switch Compatibility:

    • Ensure that the KVM switch is compatible with Thunderbolt 4. Although it worked with the G5 Dock, different generation docks can have different compatibility requirements.
  9. USB Power Settings:

    • Adjust the power management settings. Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click each USB Root Hub, select "Properties," go to the Power Management tab, and untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
  10. Testing with Other Devices:

    • If possible, test with different USB devices or a different KVM switch to isolate the problem.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there might be an incompatibility or configuration issue

Hope this helps solve your issue.
