HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G2 displays as "Generic Billboard Device" in the system tray--> USB icon.
Is there a way to display the name correctly in the system tray?
Background: I bought the dock used, from eBay. It has a Thunderbolt 3 cable between an HP 845 G8 (which doesn't have a Thunderbolt port by the way) and the dock. The dock functions fine, powering my laptop and am able to use 2 displays connected to the dock's 2 DisplayPorts. I'm even able to update the firmware from this: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-thunderbolt-dock/20075223/model/20075224
However, when I attempt to search the dock by Serial Number and PartID combination, it can't be found.

The 2 sites below seem to explain what's technically going on here. It's still fuzzy to me to be honest.

My laptop doesn't have a Thunderbolt 3 port, but it does have 2 USB-C ports (specifically, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C 10 Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort 1.4)). I'm guessing that the mismatch between what the dock expects--signal from a Thunderbolt 3 port--and what is actually sent through the USB-C port, results in the dock displayed as a "Generic Billboard Device" in my laptop. Since my dual display still works, based on one of the comments in the Reddit post, I can ignore the fact that the HP Thunderbolt Dock 120W G2 is displayed as "Generic Billboard Device" in my laptop.
