The specs of your machine is

            https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c06385566

It only has ONE hopeless USB Type-C™ 3.1 Gen 2 (Data Transfer up to 10 Gb/s) port therefore it is NOT compatible with the HP USB-C G5 dock.

HP 640 G8 has following ports

  • USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C with Thunderbolt™ Gen 3 technology (right side) (select products only)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C (supports HP Sleep & Charge; right side)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (supports HP Sleep & Charge; left side)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A (SuperSpeed powered port; left side)
  • RJ-45 (network) jack
  • Mini DisplayPort 1.4

which shows it has 2 USB-C ports. The Thunderbolt™ Gen 3 port (not all machines have this port) should be compatible with the HP USB-C G5 dock. Note: Not all HP 640 G8 machines have this port.

Wen buying an HP 640 g8 machine you have to be sure it has TWO USB-C ports on the right side, many machines only have 1 USB-C port on the right side.

Regards.

What about this one: https://proshop.lt/nesiojami-kompiuteriai/22627-hp-probook-640-g8-14-intel-core-i5-1135g7-4c-8t-24-4...

 or witch one from the list:

I think the main thing about  usb c port able to connect G5 dock is :1 USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 or other Gen (Power delivery, DisplayPort™);

Thank you for your help

@haroldas22

You need  USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 or other Gen (Power delivery, DisplayPort™);

The first one does have :    USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port (Power delivery, DisplayPort 1.4) ehich is ok

The second one : does not show its specs
