Hello,

My Company provided a HP USB - C Dock G5 docking station which works perfectly when plugged into USB-C with both my personal and professional laptop. However when I plug the docking station into a USB-A port on my other personal laptop via a USB-C to USB-A adapter the two screens plugged into the docking station are not recognized.

Actually even if nothing is plugged to the docking station and I plug it into a USB-A port on any laptop I receive the following Windows error message " Display connection might be limited" (see below).

Do you know if these  HP USB - C Dock G5 can even work on USB-A? Any alternatives to make it work?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Banhien,

Thank you for your message.

Could you please detail why it won't work on USB-A? Is this a feature that is not available on this HP docking station?

I have two old personal laptops:

So what I can do to make it works with these two laptops mentioned above?

Thanks!

I don't know the Asus, its specs does not say much about USB-C port and the electrical information. For the Surface (I actually own one), you can't connect it to the HP USB-C Gen 5.

I tested the USB-C with some of my machines HP and non-HP. I can get single cable option for one of my Dell which is the Inspiron 2-in-1 13-7000.

Regards.

@Banhien

Thanks for your feedback. So my understanding is that this HP docking station does not work with a USB-A adapter, is that a fair conclusion?

I guess the HP user manual should be updated if this is the case, because as you can see on the picture below it shows a USB-C to USB-A adapter plugged into a laptop. So that's why I am bit confused here.
