Hello...I purchased the HP USB-C G5 Essential Dock for my HP Laptop 17t-cn000. I made sure I selected compatible docking stations in the HP store. It does not work as it should. It did allow me to do firmware updates but still won't charge/connect my laptop or see additional displays/devices. Please advise.

No better. That one also requires USB-C power delivery and DisplayPort from the USB-C port. Your dock is "compatible" with your laptop in the sense that the USB and other ports will work but it just will not power your laptop or provide external monitors. Nothing you can buy will allow powering the laptop through a USB-C port. You can find a dock with "DisplayLink" function that creates a video signal over a USB or USB-C connection. Such as:

For the dock to work the USB-C ports on the laptop need to have these features:
Minimum system requirements
USB Type-C®️ (USB Power Delivery, Alt Mode DisplayPort™)
The USB-C port on your laptop is just the basic data transfer type. So it will not allow connection of a charger or provide video.
