Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I have an HP Victus 15.6 fa0000 that stays warm while sleeping, and it does it with any operating system from Windows to Linux. I have the latest firmware which is F.21 Rev A. I removed the cover and cleaned all fans which were pristine, and cleaned all pathways that again were pristine. To the left of the fans where the heat tubes are is where it stays warm. My IR temperature gun gives me a reading of 107+ degrees F. It seems the unit gets hotter while plugged in, I took these readings while on battery. The fans respond properly to system events, when the computer is on they run and are quiet. When the computer sleeps they spin down and turn off smoothly. This unit also shut itself off with an overheat message from the firmware recently, that was with Linux. I see no obvious physical cooling system issues. I didn't realize, but the unit was once hot all night and when powered on in the morning the fans ran full throttle until the CPU cooled down that was with Windows 11. I disconnected the battery from the motherboard for a few minutes to reset it. It did reset, but it did not solve the issue. 8 months ago I upgraded the RAM, but the issues started recently. Seems to possibly be a firmware/BIOS issue, but I'm Not sure what else to do at this point.

Hi @RPochmara,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with your HP Victus 15.6 fa0000 laptop staying warm while sleeping, there could be a few possible reasons for this. Here are some suggestions to address the issue.

  • Power settings: Check your power settings to ensure that your laptop is configured to go into a low-power sleep mode when idle. Open the Windows Control Panel or the Settings app and navigate to the "Power & sleep" settings. Make sure the "Sleep" and "Hibernate" settings are configured properly.
  • Cooling pad: Consider using a laptop cooling pad. These pads have built-in fans that help dissipate heat from the laptop, even when it's in sleep mode. Place the laptop on the cooling pad before putting it to sleep to help keep it cool.
  • Update drivers and firmware: Make sure that your laptop's drivers and firmware are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause issues with power management and overheating. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers and firmware updates for your specific laptop model.
  • Air circulation: Ensure that there is proper airflow around your laptop, even when it's in sleep mode. Avoid covering the laptop with blankets, pillows, or other objects that can restrict ventilation. Make sure the air vents are clean and free from dust or debris.
  • Background processes: Check if any background processes or applications are running that might be causing the laptop to stay active or generate heat. Close unnecessary applications before putting your laptop to sleep.
  • BIOS settings: Access the BIOS settings of your laptop by restarting it and pressing the designated key (such as F2 or Del) during startup. Once in the BIOS, look for any power-related settings that might affect sleep mode or thermal management. Adjust them as needed, but be cautious as changing incorrect settings can cause other issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
