Hello HP Support Team,

I am facing a hinge housing failure on my HP Victus 16 (2022 model).

I purchased this laptop in January 2022 (USA unit). It worked perfectly for about 2 years under normal, careful use. After that, the plastic housing around the hinge started cracking and eventually broke, exposing the hinge mechanism.

There has been no drop, no impact, and no misuse of the device. The failure occurred only due to regular open–close usage. The metal hinge itself is intact, but the plastic mounting has failed, which is now causing:

  • The lid to not stay in position

  • Stress on the display

  • Repeated cracking near the hinge area

This issue closely matches the widely reported hinge design problem in 2022 HP Victus 16 models, where hinge stress causes the plastic housing to fail after 1–2 years of use.

I am currently located in India, and although the warranty has expired, I am requesting HP to please consider this as a manufacturing/design defect and provide a goodwill hinge repair or appropriate support.Hinge housing plastic cracked and broken under normal use. I have attached clear photos showing the hinge housing damage.

I would really appreciate guidance or escalation from HP on how to proceed further.

Thank you.

Depending on the model and how old it is, HP has been known to fix these problems even if out of warranty.

This is mostly a peer to peer forum and I am just the messenger of this bad news:  Policy varies by country.

It might be useful to lubricate the hinge as I suspect that caused the problem.
This discussion is about using a toothpick to lubricate a MacBook hinge.
Or just do a general search

Thank you for the response and clarification.

I understand that policies can vary by country, and I appreciate you pointing that out.

However, in my case the issue is not just stiffness or lack of lubrication. The plastic hinge housing has structurally failed and cracked, exposing the hinge, while the metal hinge itself remains intact.

This failure occurred after normal daily usage, with no drop, no impact, and no misuse, and the lid no longer holds position. Because the plastic mounting has already broken, lubrication alone would not resolve the issue.

This appears consistent with the recurring hinge housing failure reported by many HP Victus 16 (2022) users, where hinge stress causes the surrounding plastic to fail over time.

I would appreciate guidance from an HP Support moderator or representative on whether this can be reviewed as a known structural/design issue and considered for goodwill support, even though the warranty has expired and the unit was purchased in the USA but is currently in India.

Thank you for your help.

Update with recent damage photo:

Sharing the latest image to show how the hinge-related damage has progressively worsened over time. The crack originated from the hinge area and expanded outward, exposing internal hinge components and wiring.

There has been no accidental damage or external impact. This clearly indicates a structural hinge failure causing secondary damage to the laptop body, which aligns with similar reports from other HP Victus 16 (2022) users.

Adding this update for record and reference , also adding the below image.

There is no problem while closing the laptop; however, every time it is opened, the hinge mechanism pushes outward from within, causing progressive tearing of the front plastic housing, as shown in the image.
