Hello, I have a problem with my laptop. As soon as I connect the charging cable and run even just a basic HP test, the laptop freezes and I can't move the mouse anymore.
After about 20 seconds, the fans spin up to maximum speed and stay that way.
What could be causing this?
I need help quickly because I also use the laptop for work.

Hi @MarcelBörner

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That sounds frustrating, especially since you rely on your HP Victus 16-R1077ng for work. This issue could be related to power delivery, overheating, or driver conflicts

Try the below troubleshooting steps:

Check Power & Performance Settings

  • Open HP Command Center (if installed) and set thermal profiles to Cool or Balanced mode.
  • Ensure Windows power settings are set to Balanced instead of High Performance.

Update BIOS & Drivers

  • Visit HP’s support page and update the BIOS, chipset, and GPU drivers.
  • Outdated firmware can cause instability when charging.

Test with a Different Charger

  • If possible, try a different HP-compatible charger to rule out power delivery issues.
  • Third-party chargers may cause inconsistent voltage regulation.

Monitor Temperatures

  • Use HWMonitor or Open Hardware Monitor to check CPU/GPU temperatures.
  • If temps exceed 90°C, the laptop may be throttling due to overheating.

Clean Cooling System

  • Dust buildup can cause thermal throttling.
  • Use compressed air to clean vents and fans.

Limit Performance While Charging

  • Use MSI Afterburner or NVIDIA Control Panel to slightly reduce GPU power usage.
  • Some users reported stability improvements by adjusting power limits.
