Hello, my HP Victus is idling at 40°C but when under load the temperature reaches 90-100°C. I noticed that the laptop uses thermal paste and putty in the heatsink but I don't seem to have any thermal putty in my area. Is it possible to use thermal paste or pads as a substitute?

@FrostByte99, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Victus 16-e0037na is overheating, especially when reaching temperatures of 90-100°C under load, it is crucial to address this promptly to avoid potential damage. Here's how you can manage the situation:

Thermal Management:

  • Thermal Paste: It is safe to use thermal paste as a substitute for thermal putty. Ensure you apply it properly to avoid any thermal ineffectiveness.
  • Thermal Pads: Thermal pads can also be used, but they might not provide the same level of thermal conductivity as high-quality thermal paste or putty.

Additional Measures:

  • Ensure Adequate Ventilation: Make sure your laptop is in a well-ventilated space to prevent overheating.
  • Performance Mode Settings: Use OMEN Gaming Hub or similar software to adjust performance modes, possibly switching to a comfort mode when high performance is not necessary.
  • Clean the Fan Vents: Dust buildup can impede airflow, leading to increased temperatures. Use a can of compressed air to clean the vents.
  • Cooling Pad: Consider using an external cooling pad to assist in maintaining a lower temperature.

Monitoring and Adjustments:

  • Regularly monitor your system’s temperatures and performance settings to adjust fan speeds and power settings to manage heat effectively.
  • Consider updating the BIOS and graphics drivers through HP Support Assistant to improve performance and thermal management.
