Hello! I've had my HP Victus since last year December, and I have no idea if the battery is degrading rapidly or all HP Victus are meant to act this way. So whenever I would decide to game for a bit, like Apex, or CoD Black Ops, I usually always plug my charger in since I read somewhere that it boosts performance. Well recently I left my charger at home and decided to game a bit at break and everything was laggy just unplayable in general. And I know it's not the internet because I've gamed at break too but with a charger and it was smooth as anyone would expect. I expected around like 120 FPS with charger in, and 60 FPS with charger out but without the charger its unplayable literally. Frames drops like crazy and my screen freezes up so many times. Is this normal? Or should I look into switching out my battery now? Would appreciate any insight!

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for sharing your concern. It’s quite common for gaming performance on laptops like the HP Victus to drop significantly when running on battery power.
This happens because the system reduces power consumption to preserve battery life, which limits CPU and GPU performance during intensive tasks like gaming.
To clarify:
- Running games plugged in allows your laptop to use full power, resulting in higher FPS and smoother gameplay.
- Running on battery usually triggers power-saving modes, causing lower performance and frame drops.
- This behavior is generally expected and doesn’t necessarily mean your battery is degrading rapidly.
However, if you notice your battery drains unusually fast or the laptop shuts down suddenly even with sufficient charge, it would be worth checking the battery health. You can use HP Support Assistant or Windows Battery Report to monitor your battery status.
If performance on battery is a priority, consider adjusting power settings to ‘High Performance’ while unplugged, though this will reduce battery life. For extended gaming sessions, keeping the charger connected is recommended.
If you want, I can guide you through checking your battery health or optimizing your power settings. Let me know!
