My HP Victus laptop has developed a gap between the display bezel and screen near the hinge area.

I have noticed that many other HP Victus users have reported similar issues online, so I would like to know whether this is a known issue.

My laptop is currently out of warranty. Could you please advise me on the recommended repair solution and whether this issue can be repaired without replacing the entire display assembly?

Any guidance from HP support would be appreciated.

Hi,

A gap between the display bezel and the screen near the hinge area should not be ignored, especially if it is increasing when opening or closing the lid.

I would not continue opening and closing the laptop more than necessary until it is inspected, because a loose or separating hinge/bezel can put stress on the LCD panel, display cable, webcam cable, and Wi-Fi antenna cables.

I cannot confirm whether HP officially considers this a known issue unless HP Support confirms it for your exact model/product number. However, the recommended repair depends on what has actually failed:

  • If only the bezel clips/adhesive have separated, the bezel may be reseated or replaced.
  • If the hinge screws are loose, the hinge may need adjustment or replacement.
  • If the hinge mounts inside the display back cover or base cover have broken, the affected cover may need replacement.
  • If the LCD panel, display cable, or antenna cables were damaged, the repair may require additional display parts.

In many HP service manuals, the display bezel, hinge kit, display back cover, and display panel can be listed as separate spare parts, depending on the exact Victus model. That means it may not always require replacing the entire display assembly, but only an inspection can confirm which parts are damaged.

For reference, HP Victus service manuals/spare-part guides are available here:

Victus by HP 15.6 inch service guide:

Victus by HP 16.1 inch service guide:

HP repair/service options:

Since the laptop is out of warranty, I would contact HP Support or an HP-authorized service center and ask for a paid repair quote. I would also ask them to confirm whether the repair can be done by replacing only the failed bezel/hinge/display back cover parts instead of the full display assembly.

Please provide the exact Victus model/product number, because the available spare parts and repair procedure can differ between Victus 15 and Victus 16 models.

@Suraj711,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Yes, this is a well-documented engineering vulnerability across several HP laptop lines, particularly the HP Victus series. The issue is caused by high factory hinge tension acting against a thin plastic housing. Over time, regular opening and closing stresses the assembly, causing the internal brass screw inserts to pull out of their plastic mounts or forcing the adhesive and retention clips on the display bezel to snap apart.

If left unaddressed, continuing to open or close the lid will cause the misaligned internal metal hinge to push directly outward. This will eventually crack your actual LCD glass matrix or sever the display and webcam cables routed through that specific area.

Recommended Out-of-Warranty Repair Solutions:

Because your unit is out of warranty, an official HP service depot will likely quote you for a complete display assembly replacement to guarantee factory standards, which is highly expensive. However, you do not necessarily have to replace the entire display panel/assembly to restore structural functionality.

Depending on the exact damage behind the plastic, you can explore cheaper local or independent repair routes:

1. Part-Specific Replacement (The Cleanest Method):

Instead of replacing the whole screen, a technician can disassemble the lid and replace only the compromised structural parts.

  • The Parts Needed: If the internal mounting standoffs are completely broken, you will need a new LCD Back Cover Casing and potentially a replacement Hinge Kit (such as p/n: N13329-001 for Victus 15 or M75739-001 for Victus 16). Your original working LCD panel, webcam, and bezel can be safely un-glued and migrated over to the new casing.
  • Cost: Substantially lower than a full display assembly.

2. Hardware Reinforcement & Screw-Through (The Budget Fix):

If you want to completely avoid buying replacement structural parts, independent local repair shops in India frequently perform a structural reinforcement technique.

  • The Process: The technician cleans out the broken plastic bits, realigns the factory metal hinge, and applies heavy-duty epoxy (like Araldite) to the base mounts. They then drill clean, precision anchor points straight through the plastic back cover, securing the metal hinges with micro-screws and washer nuts.
  • Crucial Step: The technician must slightly loosen the factory hinge tension nuts. Loosening the nuts reduces resistance when opening the laptop, preventing the fixed mount from cracking the plastic housing again down the road.
  • Cost: Usually very inexpensive at third-party repair hubs, though it leaves small, neat screw heads visible on the back lid panel.

Recommended Escalation with HP Support:

Even though your machine is officially out of warranty, you should still attempt a formal escalation via the official HP India Service Center Locator before paying completely out of pocket.

  • Request a Goodwill Exception: When creating your service ticket, emphasize that this is an engineering and materials vulnerability reported widely by the community under normal wear and tear, rather than user-inflicted drop or impact damage.
  • Present Your Case: Attach your photo alongside links to similar complaints online. Request that an HP support moderator escalate your file to a senior case manager to review for a "Goodwill Warranty Repair Exception".
  • HP India Customer Care Helpline: one - eighthundred - two five eight - seven one seven zero (Available Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM for consumer PCs). You must firmly state to the agent: "I want this logged as a structural manufacturing defect and routed directly to a Senior Case Manager for an out-of-warranty goodwill review."

Immediate Precaution: Until you take the laptop in for repair, do not force the lid completely open or closed. Leave it stationary in an open position on your desk to ensure the shifting hinge doesn't accidentally crack your underlying LCD screen panel.

Kind Regards,
