My HP Victus Laptop unexpectedly shut down one night while I was editing film footage. I took it to my nearest Best Buy and they said that the motherboard needs to be replaced. I am looking for a proper estimate on how much that would cost and how long it would take to fix. Being a film student that runs an independent videography business, this disrupts my work and I am looking to get it fixed ASAP. I just need to know a cost estimate and how to get it done.

Hi @N8TE-K,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I understand how important your HP Victus laptop is for your film editing and videography work, and I'm sorry to hear it's no longer powering on.

If Best Buy has already confirmed that the motherboard needs to be replaced, the repair cost and turnaround time can only be confirmed after an inspection by an HP Authorised Service Centre. The exact cost depends on your laptop model, warranty status, and the replacement part required. They will provide you with a repair estimate before any work is performed.

Before proceeding with a motherboard replacement, please try the following steps to rule out a temporary hardware or firmware issue:

  1. Perform a power drain (removes residual electrical charge):

    • Shut down the computer.

    • Unplug the AC adapter and all connected peripherals.

    • Press and hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds.

    • Reconnect the AC adapter and try turning on the laptop.
      .
  2. Reset the CMOS (restores hardware settings to default):

    • Turn off the computer.

    • Press and hold Windows + V, then press and hold the Power button.

    • When the CMOS Reset screen appears, or you hear beeps, release the keys.

    • Press Enter to restart.

  3. Reset the BIOS (recovers the BIOS if it has become corrupted):

    • Turn off the computer.

    • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button.

    • When the BIOS Recovery screen appears, or you hear beeps, release the keys.

    • Press Enter to restart.

Please also let us know:

  • Do you see any LED lights when you press the power button or connect the charger?

  • Is there any physical damage to the laptop?

  • If available, have you tested with an external monitor to check if there is any display output?

Once we have this information, we can help determine whether the issue may be recoverable or if a motherboard replacement is the appropriate next step.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
