Product: HP Z840 Base Model Workstation
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I recently upgraded my HP Z840 from dual E5 2630 v4s to dual E5 2690 v4s. The old CPUs had a TDP of 85w, the new CPUs have a TDP of 135w.
The CPU passmark result went 3x with my upgrade. Nice!
I have been running the machine happily for about a week. Suddenly yesterday I noticed a very high fan noise from the machine. I rushed back into the room and shut it down. It wouldn't start again. I waited for an hour or two, pushed everything back in place, took off and put the CPU and memory shroud carefully. The power usage for one CPU was way up, for a while, but it has now settled back down.
Does this sound like I had a problem with fan(s) in the CPU/Ram shroud?
