HP ZBook 15 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP ZBook 15 G3 with HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock / HP ZBook Thunderbolt 3 Dock (Both are same docking station)

This has been a fairly ongoing issue with the same model ZBook, and same model dock.  I support about 10 of these devices and about 3-5 months ago they all suddenly started having issues.  All the issues were related to BSOD when docking, and the ones I have been able to fix were done so different ways than others.  The issue occurs if dock is plugged in pre-boot when the user reaches the Windows logon page, the issue also occurs when user docks while in use.  Most of the devices were easily fixed by uninstalling the USB XHCI driver, the others by updating ASMedia driver. The remaining two aren't being as simple.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled every single piece of thunderbolt drivers and zbook graphics drivers and have two remaining Zbooks that just continue to blue screen.  When I am logged in as an admin and connect the dock after uninstalling/reinstalling everything the device performs as it should and the dock connects and displays with no issue.  I can switch over to a non-administrator account while leaving the device docked and it operates fine.  If I restart the device while docked and attempt to login to non-administrator account the device performs fine with the dock.  If I turn off the device, come in next morning and try to logon as non-administrator account, as soon as it reached desktop the ZBook blue screens with one of the following (different every time):

                     Stop Code: Drive_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

                     What failed? USBXHCI.sys

OR

                      Stop Code: Drive_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

                      What failed? Wdf01000.sys

OR

just a stop code of "Drive_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"with no identification of what failed.

I think I've narrowed it down to having something to do with Administrator account allowing and normal user account not allowing.  Just have no idea what to change.

I actually have this model laptop and dock and am sending this on it. I do not use standard non-admin accounts so have not experienced this issue but I just wonder if it has something to do with the Thunderbolt security settings in the advanced UEFI settings. These workstations have a pretty robust configuration app unlike consumer models and there is a setting for Thunderbolt security. I believe I have mine set to User authorization. How is yours set?

I have cycled through User Auth, Secure Connect, and No Auth and have issue in each.  I have definitely narrowed it down to something the standard account lacks that the Administrator account doesn't.  Currently am resorting to logging in as Administrator account and switching user to employee who is using it everyday and it's working, inconveniently of course but it's working.  I'm having trouble finding what allows the administrator account to use the dock with zero issues, yet standard account blue screens every time unless you login as admin and keep account signed in in background.
