HP ZBook 15u G2 extra storage

Hi,

We have a HP ZBook 15u G2. Opening the back of the laptop, we can see a slot available for what looks like a HDD. We have a SSD installed on the laptop when we bought it. The SSD is now almost full, is there a way to add more storage internally? Can anyone help regarding this?

Hi,

Yes, you can install a 2.5" SATA3 HDD (max 2TB because of the thickness of drive) or a 2.5" SSD of your desired capacity.

You can get from your preferred brand. You should check if the bracket is in the PC, if not, you can purchase online with part number 730793-001.

Once installed, go into Disk Management in Windows and initialize the drive and you are all set to go.

Yes the laptop is set up to accept a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD in a bay that is right next to the battery. On Zbook models the mounting caddy and cable should have shipped with the laptop even if it did not include a hard drive installed at the factory. 

Sometimes the hardware for that is provided in a separate box.

This model is designed to be serviced very easily. The rear cover removes as a piece without tools, exposing what you see above. The hard drive bay will accept either a 7 mm or 9.5 mm hard drive or SSD. If you are to use it as pure storage I would recommend a 7200 rpm mechanical drive like this perhaps:
