Hi guys, I have an old HP ax201nk and I would like to upgrade him it amd give him a new life by buying a 1TB SSD Samsung 980 Pro but I´m scared that they are not compatible.
Is anyone knows if it will work out, or tell me how to recognize the compatibility of my laptop ?

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the model series supports NVMe SSD's.

HP offered NVMe SSD's up to 512 GB in storage capacity, but I cannot think of any reason why a 1 TB Samsung 980 NVMe SSD wouldn't work as well.

thank you for your quick reply
and I`m asking because I bought an WD Sn570 SSD and I didnt worked on it .

You're very welcome.

I have no idea why the SN570 drive didn't work, so I would have to say the Samsung drive wouldn't work either.

Is the 128 GB M.2 SSD  that came with your PC according to the specs, a M.2 SATA or M,2 NVMe SSD?

If it is a SATA SSD, then it is possible the service manual is incorrect and your notebook only supports M.2 SATA.

BTW, I missed that you wanted to install a 980 Pro.

That is PCIe Gen 4, and your notebook's M.2 slot is only Gen 3 (if it supports NVMe SSD's) and you won't get the max speed out of it.

To be honest I dont remember which kind of SSD came with the laptop, but I later bought a 1TB addlink SSD (https://www.amazon.de/Addlink-Gen3x4-3400MB-Hochleistungs-Interner/dp/B07K7LRB2T?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=...) and it totally worked.
Last week the addlink died and as i told you I bought the SN570 but didnt work, so I´m now afraid to buy the samsung one uselesly

If you can still buy the one you had, then you may as well play it safe and buy it again.

Looking at the specs, the performance was pretty good.

You'd get about the same from the 980 3.0 or 980 4.0 anyway.

I still don't understand why the WD Blue didn't work.

It basically had the same specs as the one that died on you.

Thanks alot for all your answers Paul,
I finally decide to buy the 970 Evo Plus.
I let you know how thing went , it might be helpfull for someone else.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

All I can think of is that either the WD Blue drive was incompatible with your PC (why, I have no idea), or it was defective out of the box.
