So I have a HP pavilion gaming 5 series - recently one day it didn't boot up , was getting light on power botton but fan didn't spin neither tab button or back light used to light up - screen used to be black - power button light used to be on for 3-4 second and then turn off.
Went to repair - he said he reflashes bios again as it was a bios issue. Worked fine for 3-4 days again it happened - he reflashed bios again - same issue after 4-5 days.
I am fed up since I had warranty for 3 years and it's over . And this issue is happening . And the cost to fix this is very high.
I wanted to ask - is this really bios issue (I was on rev .72 ) and I don't remember any faulty bios update I did.
So why is this happening

Hi @r1itter,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing with your HP Pavilion Gaming 5 Series could indeed be related to the BIOS, but it might also involve other hardware components. Here are some potential causes and steps to diagnose and possibly resolve the problem.
Possible Causes
- BIOS Corruption: While it’s possible that the BIOS is corrupt and reflashing it temporarily resolves the issue, persistent problems after reflashing suggest that there might be an underlying cause that's not being addressed.
- Hardware Issues:
- RAM: Faulty or improperly seated RAM can cause boot issues. Try reseating the RAM or testing with a different RAM module if possible.
- Motherboard: There could be an issue with the motherboard itself, such as a failing component or a loose connection.
- Power Supply: Inconsistent power delivery could cause the system to fail during the boot process. Ensure that the power adapter is functioning correctly and delivering stable power.
- Overheating: If the system overheats, it might shut down to protect itself. Ensure that the cooling system (fans, heatsinks) is clean and functioning properly.
Diagnostic Steps
- Check RAM:
- Power off the laptop, unplug it, and remove the battery (if possible).
- Open the back panel and carefully remove the RAM modules.
- Reinsert them firmly or try using a different RAM module if you have one available.
- Reset CMOS:
- Power off the laptop, unplug it, and remove the battery (if possible).
- Locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard, remove it for a few minutes, then reinsert it. This will reset the BIOS settings to default.
- Test Power Supply:
- Ensure that the power adapter is working correctly. If possible, use a different adapter to rule out power issues.
- Inspect for Overheating:
- Ensure the cooling system is clean and that the fans are spinning freely. Sometimes, dust accumulation can cause overheating and result in shutdowns.
- Run Diagnostics:
- Many HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics tools. Press the appropriate key (usually F2 or ESC) during boot to access these diagnostics and run a full hardware test.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
