What is the product number on the HP power adapter?  Look on the bottom side of the adapter. There will be lots of information there.

It would help even more if you provided the product name and product number of the laptop that you plan on using it with.

There is normally a little diagram on power adapters that shows which wire is +.

The minus will generally be black and the blue wire will be the sense wire.

How about taking a digital photo of the bottom where all of the identifying information is and posting it in your next reply here.
