Hi @BingT
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your laptop's battery might be struggling to hold a charge after being unused for months. Let's troubleshoot this step by step to get your laptop back on track:
Step 1: Hard Reset
- Disconnect the charger and turn off your laptop completely.
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Plug the charger back in and try turning on the laptop.
Step 2: Check the Charger and Port
- Inspect the charger for any visible damage or frayed wires.
- Ensure the charging port on your laptop is clean and free of debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean it gently.
- If possible, try using a different charger to rule out issues with the current one.
Step 3: Battery Calibration
- Let the laptop charge for at least 2 hours, even if it keeps shutting down.
- Once charged, unplug the charger and let the battery drain completely until the laptop powers off.
- Plug the charger back in and allow the battery to charge to 100% without interruption.
Step 4: Run Battery Diagnostics
- Press Esc repeatedly as you turn on the laptop to access the HP Startup Menu.
- Select Diagnostics and run a battery test to check its health.
- Follow any recommendations provided by the diagnostic tool.
Step 5: Update BIOS and Drivers
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your laptop model.
- Download and install the latest BIOS update and battery-related drivers.
- Restart your laptop after the updates.
Step 6: Reset Power Management Settings
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Batteries and right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
- Select Uninstall device and restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
Let me know how it goes—your laptop deserves to be back in action! 😊
