My notebook has recently started getting very hot and the HP Command Center doesn't seem to respond to a change of settings anymore.

I can't hear the fan running (which is usually pretty loud) and the fan speed doesn't increase when I switch from the "balanced" mode to the "cooling" mode. A few weeks ago, I could still hear the fan speed ramp up significantly when changing the modes. Also the temperature bar seems to be frozen and doesn't show any variation when the notebook heats up/cools down.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and can help me on what might be the problem? Thanks in advance!
