Dear Hp community / Support,
i have here an HP Pavilion dv6500, it belongs to my Neighbor.
it could run some games and then it was frozen totally until he hold down the power button to shutdown and restart again.
so he asked me if i can do something against that. After a re-install of windows it wont help. Always the whole Laptop was frozen and got some colors on the screen when starting a game so I thought the motherboard was broken or the graphics card stopped working.
So i ordered a new mainboard the 460900-001 model with the 965 Chipset upgraded the HDD to SSD also got a higher CPU Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9500 6M Cache, 2.60 GHz, 800 MHz instead using the Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7500 2.20 GHz 4 MB Cache, 2,20 GHz, 800MHz (Hope it was a decision wish made a difference)
and i also upgraded the Qimonda 2x1GB DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300S CL5 RAM Sodimm
with the Kuesuny 2x2GB DDR2 667 MHz PC2-5300S CL5 Sodimm
Now if i turn on the Laptop it turns on successfully but i have just a Black screen. The screen stay black completely but the cooler spins. When removing the new Ram’s and installing the 2x1GB i can see the screen to install an OS or to enter the BIOS etc.
Do i have to update the BIOS or did i purchase a wrong RAM?

Hi:
If this is the memory you bought, looking at the specs, it should have worked, so unfortunately, I don't know what the problem could be.
https://www.amazon.com/Kuesuny-PC2-5300-PC2-5300S-Unbuffered-Notebook/dp/B07PV861BJ
It is dual ranked (2Rx8) memory, and the other specs are correct.
Do you see any difference between the original memory's characteristics/specs that may be different other than it being 1 GB?
I'm thinking the PC probably doesn't like that particular brand memory for some reason or another since the other memory works fine.
Can you get this chip in Türkiye?
Hynix 2GB DDR2 RAM PC2-6400 200-Pin Laptop SODIMM Major/3rd at Amazon.com
DDR2-6400 (800 MHz) memory will also work and will automatically bridge to 667 MHz.

yes i can purchase that Hynix 2RX8 PC2-6400S-666-12 2 GB DDR2 800 MHz Notebook Ram thanks a lot. i saw some YT videos with that RAM model some people used that Hynix. So i should do it also. So i need no BIOS update or is it always better to update the bios?

You're very welcome.
There should be no need to update the BIOS because the fact that the T9500 worked in the notebook means it had the BIOS update that added support for the T8100, T8300, T9300 and T9500 processors, and that update came out further down the line.
The Intel GM965/PM965 chipset supports 4 GB of memory right from the beginning.
They even support 2 x 4 GB of memory, but that is kind of expensive nowadays.
I am running W11 on an old HP 6910p notebook with the PM965 chipset (it has the Radeon x2300 GPU) and 2 x 4 GB of DDR4-800 memory, T7500 processor and a SSD. Works fine.
The GM965 chipset is for the notebooks with the onboard Intel graphics and those also support 2 x 4 GB of DDR2-5300/6400 memory.

It seems like the recent upgrades might be causing the issue. Have you considered checking if the new RAM is compatible with the laptop or if a BIOS update is required? This could potentially resolve the black screen problem.
