My laptop is suddenly getting extremely HOT underneath soon after turning it on to work. Like in 5-10 minutes. My computer tech said to not use it till he can DX and fix... may be fan but can't tell until he gets in to look later today. And with supply chain issues may take a day or couple of weeks to get fan if that's what it is... Just trying to troubleshoot til then.
HP Envy 17 touchscreen
Also the box on power cord gets hot also.

Welcome to the HP User Community.
Could be a failing / failed / bloated battery.
Tech is giving you good advice - do not use the computer until the problem can be identified.
Extreme heat is never a good sign and should be treated with caution.
If you want to do so,
Open the computer case and look inside.
If the battery is bloated, this is the likely source of the heat.
If the battery looks OK - this lessens the chance of the battery being the source (but does not eliminate it).
What else?
Could be a bad adapter (charger)
Could be a buildup of dirt in the case
Could be a failing CPU (processor)
Could be a developing electrical issue on the board
Can't stand it?
Can't stay out of the computer until the tech can check it?
