My laptop (about 3 years old) stays warm on the top left hand corner and the battery loses charge (around 40-50% overnight) even when the laptop is completely powered off.
I have tried turning off fast boot and the battery check via HP support assistant shows that the battery is "OK".
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, @mus890 - Hope you are well 🙂
Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!
Going through your post, I understand that you are facing issues with the notebook battery. I’d suggest you update the chipset drivers and the BIOS to try and fix this issue.
Go to http://hp.care/2sC19F7 and expand the “Driver-Chipset” section. Download and install the “Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver”. Restart the PC once done.
Now, again to the product driver page and download and install the latest BIOS update. Restart the PC again and then check for the issue resolution.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂

Hello, @mus890
Please perform a battery test as well as an adapter test to determine any hardware defects. Here are the steps:
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc to get the Startup menu. Now press F2 key.
- The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.
- Select the "Component test" and then select "battery test" from the list.
- Once done, perform an adapter test as well.
- Let me know if the test passes or not.
Go to http://hp.care/2cMZFxJ and perform the tests under “Testing and calibrating the battery using HP PC Diagnostics UEFI (preferred method)”. Make sure to do the test for both battery and the adapter.
If the test passes, perform a battery calibration as well as mentioned under “Manually Calibrating the battery” and check.
Thanks, I’ll watch for your reply!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @mus890
Thanks for the update!
Let's try these steps as a last resort:
1) Right click on the start icon and click on device manager.
2) Expand the batteries category.
3) Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall.
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
4) If you have multiple entries for "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" then uninstall all of them.
5) Restart the computer.
If the issue persists, I'd suggest you contact the HP phone support for further assistance.

Hi, @Dvortex
Uninstalling the driver didnot solve the problem. And I tried contacting hp support but didnt find my country listed there.
I also googled my problem and according to the following page, "The left hand side should have a little warmth because that is the side for the processor, but never hot.", could it be that my processor isnt powering off properly. (the hard reset recommended on the site did not work.
Also I wanted to ask you if you think changing the battery might help.
Thank you

Hello, @mus890
Thanks for the update!
The hard reset recommended will shut down your system completely (Removing the battery and holding down the power button for about 10 - 15 seconds).
Also, when your PC is used for a long time it is normal for the PC to get little warm as mentioned in the post.
Now, about the battery change, I cannot be sure that will resolve the issue. You can definitely try that to isolate the issue but it could be the processor/motherboard of the machine itself.
Let me know the country you are from and I'll try and help you get the HP contact information.
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
Thank you 🙂

HI,
I got the new battery a couple days ago.
Sorry it took a while.
Sadly i am still experiencing the same problem.
could it be that because of some software issue the processor is not powering off properly?
Also when i said it was getting warm, I meant while it was powered off.
Oh and i am from Karachi,Pakistan

Hello, @mus890
Thanks for the update!
It looks like an issue with the PC itself. You can try to perform a complete system recovery to eliminate any software related issue.
Backup all your files and perform a recovery to reinstall the software on your PC.
Go to HP PCs - Reset the computer | HP® Support and follow the steps under “Recovery when Windows 10 does not start correctly”.
If the issue still persists, then the issue could be with the PC itself. I'd suggest you contact the HP phone support for repair options.
Let me know how that goes!
Cheers 🙂
