If I can get the right HP Part Number I have about a 98% success rate finding the part. Here is the Service Manual:
Exploded diagram on p. 21. With hinges, the parts that usually get destroyed are the hinges themselves, the back cover of the display case and the base assembly (the tub where the motherboard goes). The hinges generally bolt into the base assembly on the bottom and the back of the screen housing at the top. You have to disassemble and carefully examine what has actually been torn up. There is no way to repair the damage although we have had people come up with all kinds of efforts to use Gorilla Glue and other concoctions. The only permanent fix is to replace the hinges and any damaged chassis components. That is why almost nobody actually carries through and does the repair because it is costly and a lot of work. But post back if you want help doing it.

Thanks - the hinges are fine - the screw holes all are broke - the little brass inserts have all pulled out - I believe I need the palm rest piece - cannot find any !
my solution will be to drill a hole all the way thru and put a proper nut and bolt ! Thanks
