The following keys on my laptop keyboard do not work (starting from top and moving down rows)
q, w, e, r, u, i, o, p,
left shift, z, x, right shift, up arrow, and the Numpad's 0 key.
All other keys work.
Oddly enough, yesterday if I kept pressing multiple of these dead keys (like qwer all at once), they would start working again. Occasionally they would work but be heavily delayed in their input vs keypress. Today none of the keys work and they can't be 'revived.' The left shift, z, and x keys were originally the only keys which could not be revived. When the other keys could be revived, holding left shift, right shift, and tapping z or x would result in an Q or W.
I'm currently typing on my USB keyboard.
I have tried virus scanning with window's defender, restarting, uninstalling my keyboard driver via device manager then restarting, all without success. I would say it's simply a hardware issue other than the keys randomly coming back alive. Also really weird is the z and x keys becoming Q and W specifically but only when shifts were held down...meaning the keys themselves were registering some sort of input but only when other keys were pressed.
I've also tried the turn off, hold power button till it is no longer illuminated type 'hard reset.'

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand that Incorrect characters are displayed when using the keyboard, I am glad to assist you.
There are two common keyboard issues that can occur during the normal operation.
The first is the Num Lock key gets accidentally pressed, turning a portion of the keyboard into a number pad.
The other is the keyboard language gets inadvertently switched from its original language to another, resulting in some letters and numbers appearing different on the screen than how they are typed.
Check the Num Lock key, Set the keyboard language, Update the BIOS and device drivers:
If you experience is persistent with the keyboard errors, such as the keyboard frequently switching modes,
Try updating the notebook's BIOS and device drivers.
