Is HP actively disabling support for totally compatible USB-C power supplies?
Attempted to chanrge my zbook G5 using a Dell USB-C charging dock today (WD15)
A message popped up advising that the connected charger was not able to deliver enough power and that HP have a wide range of compatible docks.
Upon closer inspection of the Dell dock, my notebook requirements and the HP travel charger i currently use, it is obvious that the Dell dock provides the correct voltage and more than enough current to charge this notebook, more infact than the HP travel charger.
- Notebook power requirements: 19.5v 3.3A
- HP travel adapter: 19.5v, 3.33A
- Dell WD15 output: 19.5v, 6.7A - 9.23A

Many chargers now call Smart Chargers and believe this or not they are very smart, they can communicate with notebooks and notebooks know their own chargers may reject others with a misleading message such as this case.
All you need is a COMPATIBLE charger because not all HP chargers will work with your notebook.
Hope this makes sense.
Note: Well I would not mention Dell on this forum even I own Dell Latitude machines and tone of accessories up to my ears.
Regards.

Thanks for the reply. Yes i understand that modern peripherals will be communicating capabilities back to the host but this seem quite disingenuous on HPs part for both disabling all but HP branded chargers and also showing a misleading message about the 3rd party unit capabilities.
This would be like samsung preventing people charging their phones with non-samsung chargers.
