HP Notebook - 15q-ds0010tu
Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop works only when plugged in and it stuck at 60% battery. When unplugged the charger it switches off. I've tried uninstalling the recent security and quality updates but still facing the same issue.

Hi @Firoz99,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a battery-related issue with your HP Notebook. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Calibrate the Battery (if possible): Some laptops have built-in battery calibration tools. Check your laptop's user manual or HP's official website to see if there's a recommended procedure to calibrate the battery. This might help the battery percentage accuracy.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect any external devices and remove the power cord.
  • Remove the battery, if possible (some laptops have non-removable batteries).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power cord.
  • Turn on the laptop and check if the battery percentage is accurate now.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Make sure your laptop's BIOS and drivers are up to date. Sometimes outdated BIOS or drivers can cause battery-related issues. Visit HP's official website and download the latest BIOS and driver updates for your laptop model.

Check Power Settings:

  • Go to the Control Panel (or Settings) and open the Power Options.
  • Make sure you're using a balanced power plan and not a power-saving mode that could limit your battery's charging.

Reset Power Management Settings:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for cmd, right-click, and select "Run as administrator").
  • Type the following commands one by one and press Enter after each:

powercfg /restoredefaultschemes

powercfg /setactive scheme_current

  • Restart your laptop and see if the battery behavior improves.

Run Battery Diagnostics:

  • Some laptops have built-in battery diagnostics tools. Check if your laptop has such a tool and run a battery health check.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
