Hi @Nichelec
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
If your HP laptop model 15-dy202 is not charging and has died, preventing you from retrieving files, you can try the following steps:
Check the Adapter and Power Source:
- Ensure that the power adapter is firmly plugged into both the power outlet and the laptop.
- Test the power outlet with another device to confirm it is working.
Inspect the Charging Port and Cable:
- Look for any debris or damage in the laptop’s charging port.
- Check the power cable for any visible damage. If you have another charger that is compatible, try using it to see if it resolves the issue.
Reset the Laptop:
- Sometimes performing a reset can help. To do this, unplug the power adapter, remove the battery if possible, and press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds. Then reconnect the battery and charger and try to power on the laptop.
LED Indicators:
- Check for any LED light indicators on the laptop. They can provide clues as to whether the laptop is receiving power.
Battery Issues:
- If the laptop is out of warranty and the battery can be removed, consider replacing the battery. Newer laptops might have non-removable batteries, so proceed with caution or professional help.
Data Recovery
For retrieving files, if the laptop is not powering on despite working on the above steps:
Use an External Enclosure: Remove the hard drive from the laptop (if possible and you are comfortable doing so or seek professional help) and use a USB external hard drive enclosure to connect it to another computer. This will allow you to access and copy your files.
Professional Data Recovery: If you are not comfortable removing the hard drive, consider professional data recovery services.
Let me know if this helps!
