Microsoft Windows 11

My son have HP 14-dq2031tg from 2yrs ago. I've upgraded 4gb ram to (2) 8gb, it took 5 mins. Now, I'm at loss at how to upgrade the storage, it has a single slot for SSD SATA 128gb. I bought Crucial 1TB SSD NVME. There's nothing in the laptop, it was only used for browsing and Roblox so I can install clean.

I bought a USB adapter for the SSD storage , can I just download Windows 11 in it, remove the old SSD and put new one? When it loads up, it will just install it? When I checked the BIOS I didn't see it as an option to boot.

I watched several YouTube videos but I am overwhelmed. Help this old momma out...

There are several HP notebooks where the NVMe drive does not show up in the BIOS.

Why I do not know, but it seems to be normal.

Since the 14-dq2031tg comes with an Intel® Core™ i3-1125G4 processor, the notebook should support a M.2 NVMe SSD.

The easiest thing to do would be to use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows the drivers and the software that originally came with the notebook on the new SSD.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support

You can download the utility from the Microsoft Store.

HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store

If you reinstalled the 128 GB SATA SSD, you can run the tool on the notebook to create the USB recovery drive.

If you still have the NVMe SSD installed, you can run the tool on another Windows PC and you will need to enter the notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.

The notebook's product number is 333V2UA#ABA

It has SATA drive and now you try to install NVMe drive. That is not going to work. You need SATA drive.

That Works!!! I used the HP Recovery Tool to make USB bootable drive. Paul, you made my day! You don't know how frustrated I was for days trying to figure out how to do this. I spent 8hrs yesterday but I made it too complicated when it was just something straight forward. Thank you again!
