OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck2000 (70W99AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I just bought an HP Omen 17.3 gaming laptop with i7 13700hx processor and rtx 4080 gpu but even though i didn't even used it for a week, a heat issue is emerged. Whenever i started gaming my cpu and gpu temp skyrocketed, i did every update bios, software etc but none of it helped fans seems to be working but... i don't know if it is a malfunction or due to the laptop's design. I am using Omen Gaming Hub, undervolting didn't helped did up to -0.075v. When i switch to the performance mode it becomes even worse the temps are min 91 degree Celsius. And the laptop shut down itself once while gaming, i think it is due to the high temps and i am scared if the components are damaged, i did many tests if there is a problem with any of the components with hp software or 3DMark etc. i didn't find any problems. I think , i will return it... i did thought that hp 's laptops are overheating itself but not of this degree.

Hi @Faith341,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a significant issue with your HP Omen 17 laptop, particularly concerning overheating. Here are a few steps and considerations to help troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem:

Check Airflow and Environment: Ensure that the laptop is being used in an environment with good airflow. Avoid using it on soft surfaces like beds or sofas that can block air vents. Use a cooling pad to enhance airflow around the chassis.

Review Thermal Management Settings: Through the Omen Gaming Hub, you can check if there are any additional settings or profiles that might help manage heat better than the standard settings. Sometimes, choosing a balanced mode rather than performance mode can prevent overheating without a significant impact on gaming performance.

Cleaning and Maintenance: Since it's a new laptop, this is less likely to be the issue, but always ensure that the air vents are clean and unobstructed.

External Cooling Solutions: Consider using an external cooling solution like a laptop cooling pad which can help in reducing temperatures by improving the air circulation.

Hardware Check: If possible, have the laptop checked for any hardware issues. Sometimes, improper thermal paste application or faulty cooling systems (like a malfunctioning fan despite appearing to work) can cause overheating.

Update Drivers and Firmware: You've mentioned updating BIOS, but also ensure that the graphics and chipset drivers are up to date. Sometimes, specific driver updates can help improve hardware efficiency and thermal management.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
