Hey there... I need a keyboard for HP Probook 470 g3. I was wondering, is the keyboard compatible with g5 and is it possible to install a keyboard with backlight. I appreciate your help.

Hello Maxyold,

Thank you for your query.

No, an HP ProBook 470 G3 keyboard is not compatible with the 470 G5, and the 470 G3 model does not officially support a backlit keyboard without hardware modifications. To install a backlit keyboard, you would need a replacement keyboard specifically for the G5 model, and you cannot simply add backlighting to the G3 keyboard.

G3 vs. G5 compatibility
  • Not compatible: The chassis and internal connectors are different between the G3 and G5 models, so a keyboard designed for one will not fit in the other.
  • Correct model: To replace the keyboard, you must buy a keyboard specifically made for the ProBook 470 G5.

Backlit keyboard installation
  • Official models: Many 470 G5 models come with a backlit keyboard, and you can purchase a replacement specifically for that model, like this one from Amazon.in.
  • Unofficial upgrades: The 470 G3 model was not offered with a backlit keyboard, and its motherboard does not have the necessary header to support one.
  • DIY solution: While it is possible to manually add a backlit keyboard to a 470 G3 by tapping into a different power source, this is a complex and potentially risky project that is not officially supported by HP.
