I am unable to charge via USB-C straight from a PD charger as I was able to with my previous generation Zbook studio g7.
This laptop obviously supports power over the USB-C/Thunderbolt port as it works with both HP and dell docks that only plug in to that port.
Plugging in directly from any of my 45, 65 or 100 watt USB-C PD chargers produces no results though, all of which worked with the studio G7.
Are there any settings or drivers which I may be missing to get this to work? Would really prefer to carry a single smaller charger around for all my devices and keep the power brick for at home.

Hi @StefanOZ
You need a 150 watt dock (It depends on whether you have a 150 watt or 200 watt AC.) , you can see the following compatible ones:
HP USB-C Dock G5 5TW10AA
HP Thunderbolt Dock 230W G2 2UK38AA
QuickSpecs
HP ZBook Studio 15.6 inch G8 Mobile Workstation PC

I'm using an HP USB-C Dock G5 5TW10AA. It won't give me 150W. Its specs clearly says
Regards.

Hi @banhien
Yes, that is correct, as well as the TB 230 w G2, if you use only the USB-C cable you have 100 watt. Only using the combo cable (USB-c/AC) you can have 230 watts.

@resistencia so if I am reading correctly, I can use the usb-C cable from a dock and get 100W (can confirm I do get power via a dell dock).
Any guidance on why I get no power when plugging in to a 100W USB-C charger then? The charger supports 20.0V 5A output which matches the 20V on the 150 watt power brick.

I'm not really familiar with the Dell dock.
I'm not really familiar with the Dell dock.
The main problem comes from the dGPU that consumes a lot of power, in some business computers in the BIOS you can disable the dGPU and work with the UMA , this may give the possibility that the 100 watts are enough.
I believe that in order to charge the battery you should put the laptop to sleep or turn it off. I use Zbook, and these are the recommendations, and I think they apply to your laptop:

@Resistencia
Looks like shutting down the laptop does let it charge via the USB power supply. Bit annoying that it won't charge when powered up like the previous laptop. Fresh restart and it will run off battery without any applications open and plugged in.
I'll try disabling the discrete GPU to see if I can use that as a travel solution.

Ho @StefanOZ
yes, it should work by disabling the dGPU. The other problem it may present is that if you increase the memory and add another disk .. this may affect, hopefully not.
