Elite Thunderbolt 3 dock
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

First, I couldn't find an exact category match.

Secomd, I bought HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 dock, and a 90 Watt blue tip H P pwer cord.

I'm trying to hook it up to a Apple mid 2011 Mac Mini with OS 10.13.  The thunderbolt port is a Thunderbolt 1 port.

I heard all thunderbolt stuff is compatible but only as strong as the weakest link (my Mac mini). I bought the appropriate physical adapters.

When visiting About This Mac/System Report/Thunderbolt. Plugging in just the port and power, the dock is not showing up on the Thunderbolt report.

2 problems.  One is the Power button does not seem to work.

Second, there are 2 thunderbolt females and 2 power holes.

A) which hole (indented or not) do I plug the 90 Watt power into.

B) which Thunderbolt female (indented or not) do I plug the wire to the Mac Mini into?

C) do I need a second power supply?

D) why are there no thunderbolt 3 F-F adapters in existence, and the USB C F-F don't work as Thunderbolt.   That was literally the only reason why I bought a Thunderbolt dock.  There was no other way to connect it.

E) my main use is as a USB port that's faster than my default 2.0s. Does that effect what gets done?

I always say on this forum and few others: do not mix expensive devices from 2 different platforms/vendors; the chance is they are not compatible.

Now back to your HP Thunderbolt dock (which one ?). Did you know it is not compatible with many HP machines.  For example the following dock

     Note: see compatible products list
