Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

I have an HP Victus 15.6, model number of 15-fb1013dx. I am having a problem with the ribbon cable of the rechargable battery, where it keeps disconnecting. I have to use my nails and push it back in. Today, i had to do the same thing and it wouldnt start up even when plugged in. What should I do now? The charge light on the left side still turns on. The computer isn't under warranty at the moment

Hi @CaidenK

That is not a ribbon connector.

From your description, it sounds as if you inadvertently damaged the battery connector or the header on the laptop's system board. Both parts are delicate.

I take it you have replaced the battery.

If you forced it when disconnecting the battery, the tabs on the connector or the header may be damaged.

I suggest using a magnifying glass to thoroughly inspect the battery connector and the header it plugs into on the laptop's system board.

Upon inspecting the image, I see that the connector is not completely in place. Se the tabs that I have pointed to in the image.

That makes sense, thank you!! I apologize, I actually did not replace the battery. It just all of a sudden didn't boot up, and I looked it up on Google and decided to take out the battery and put it back in. The battery still holds a charge just like how it always has, it just keeps dosconnecting. How do I do those tabs? i saw that, and I have no clue how to do that. Thank you, once again!

And also, is there anything I can do to get that header and/or the connecter replaced if it is broken? Thank you in advance. I made the mistake of not getting a warranty xD.

And one last thing, on checking the connector port, this is what it looks like. The pins, I'm not sure if they're messed up or not.

Just gently press the connector into the header on the system board until the plastic latch pieces are fully seated.

You will see the complete tab in both places once they are fully seated.

That will be when the  battery connector will stay in place.

Makes sense, thank you! I actually just did that earlier today, and it still isn't working. I reseated the RAM also, as I heard that that may work. Could the battery, the connector cable (which is integrated into the battery it seems), or the motherboard all together be bricked? This was very sudden, about 2 weeks ago, and everything worked right until then. Extremely frustrating.

"Could the battery, the connector cable (which is integrated into the battery it seems), or the motherboard all together be bricked? "

That is unlikely and an improper use of the term bricked.

Bricked is when a BIOS update is interrupted or goes wrong and a laptop won't even boot into the POST test onscreen.

Chances are that when you removed the battery, you did not do it gently enough and smashed the tops of the latch tips on the battery connector.

Just out of curiosity, how did you remove the connector?

I hope you did not use a jewelers screwdriver and press down on the tabs to try to release the connector.

If you did, that is what has caused the issue and it is not something that can be repaired. It requires part replacement.

It should be grasped by hand and gently moved left and right while applying pressure in an outward direction. It can also be removed with gentle and judicious use of a mobile phone plastic pry tool called a spudger.

You can unplug the connector and see if that is the case.

It would have been a far better image if you had been able to take the photo while holding the phone or camera perpendicular to the connector end.

The way you took the shot induced a parallax error that makes it extremely difficult to see clearly if the pins are bent or not.

What you can do as a workaround is use a tie wrap, also known as a cable tie, small enough to hold the battery connector into the header on the system board. The nice thing about doing that is that it is not a permanent connection.
