Common problems for Battery

Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My wireless keyboard and mouse BOTH stopped working yesterday.  They were fine and I used them the previous night, then yesterday evening neither worked.  Keyboard is the HP keyboard that came with my HP Envy23 touchSmart.  Has always worked.  I put new batteries in, but still no response. No lights.  Mouse is the HP Mouse that came with the computer - lights on, red lisght, turned on and off , waited, tried again, put new batteries in even though the lights were on, still no connection, no response from the computer.

One weird thing - when I turned on the computer last night, it very briefly had a black screen with some commands going on, but disappeared before I could even read any of it.  The computer had turned off apparently unexpectedly, and then was booting back up.  Is that a clue?

A wired keyboard works, and a wireless mouse with a Dongle works, but I still can get no response at all from my original wireless keyboarad and mouse.

What Happened?

The WiFi dongle for the mouse and keyboard can be seen in this video

Remove it and put it back in is about all I can think of,. Maybe it is loose.

if the receive no longer works in that slot try another slot on the side.

If it is broken I can make a suggestion.
